My memory of WWI- Franz Ferdinand got shot at a parade or something and Austria was PISSED. Everyone took a side and chaos ensued.
I also know that Germany was wrecked financially and socially because of it, which led to the rise of nazism. They were completely devastated in every way and Hitler/his political ideas brought them hope. It's much easier to take advantage of a depressed nation rather than a nation that is perfectly fine/not hurting.
Is any of this correct?

Archduke Ferdinand being assassinated and the Lusitania sinking were the acts that caused World War I, yes. The problems that led to them are much more simpler and far more stupid.
The main causes of WWI: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism.
