Why Katy is the new/upcoming Queen of Pop
Artists come and go, making impact for a short amount of time. But to become Pop Royalty, an artist has to prove they can last decades. Madonna is still the current Queen of Pop, but while she is getting older a new one is rising. Here are the reasons why Katy is becomming the OFFICIAL new Queen of Pop.
- Like Madonna early in her career, Katy is a strategist and a business woman who focuses on building her image and persona by setting limitations, which are allowing her to grow after setting the foundation. She is willing to compromise her own views and beliefs, and works with people that are helping her expand her audience through a relatable image and music designed to be understood by the masses. This makes her completely safe from recieving any serious backclash.
-Like Madonna was, Katy isn't really taken seriously for being a talented and skilled singer/musician. Madonna proved herself as a successful hitmaker with her first 3 albums, but didn't properly establish herself until her fourth album, and eventually won her first grammy nearly a decade after her career started. While Katy is doubted the same way, this will allow her to evolve and surprise those who didn't expect her to last, as she has already exceeded expectations and proved many wrong by getting bigger per album.
-Like Madonna, Katy started off her career around the same time as an eccentric, hyped up star on the scene from New York much more musically skilled than her, and built up to become a legend. In order for an underdog to rise, a big star has to fall. While everyone expected Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga to prevail at their careers, instead they decided to go in a more alternative route with each album, and then into Jazz. Unlike Katy and Madonna who played the game steadily and slowly, they followed their instinct and did what they wanted instead of listening to the advice of their labels and teams.
-Like Madonna, Katy is something fresh that hasn't been done before. Madonna's trademarks became reinventing herself, controversy and rebellious/risk taking in an industry where the 'fun' and 'light' persona of Cyndi Lauper was expected to influence generations. While Lady Gaga created a storm by using simillar methods to Madonna, being hailed 'the new Madonna' by many, it is Katy's 'fun', 'light' and 'colourful' persona that is prevailing in this generation and relating to people. In short, Lady Gaga will become known as the 'faded' version of Maonna, and Katy will essentially be a successful Cyndi (although this term won't be as known).
-Like Madonna, Katy grew up in an environment where she experienced decisions of salvation, making her into a devoted slave of the industry. Being brought up in a christian family with the knowledge of bible teachings to follow the Lord and have eternal life, she threw it all away for her deal with Satan. Instead of taking the opportunity to live a spiritual life, her fleshly desire for commercial success has formed her into a soulless product OF the world, instead of a follower IN the world.
-Like Madonna, Katy is deep down a ruthless and manipulative opportunist who will make sure she gets what she wants despite getting the public on her side. This is because of her lack of free will, and the fact she gave up her free spirit for the industry. Later in her career, her harshness and coldness will be more emphasised. It isn't going to be a happy road for her, but it's the road she has chosen and there's no turning back in the deal she has made.
- Like Madonna, Katy doesn't have the committment and humbleness to properly settle with another man. Although they have both got with famous men as part of the career deal, they have given their soul to the industry and have none left to know and understand true love.
