I'm not even being shady but Katy could sing the theme song for Dora the explorer at this point. A different extreme than some women being sexually confident.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say that my "GP" friends have indeed told me that her music/image is a bit childish or they say it more indirectly by saying "my niece/nephew/etc loves Katy Perry and s/he's 4-12 years old."
But they don't make it an issue. They don't think it's super weird and "drag" her for it or anything. They still listen to her music; It's simply an observation and it's quite true! Who would mind a bigger fanbase? Katy's the smartest pop star tbh. It's not good to restrict your music demographically.

Because a 40 year old being sexy for a 20 year old isn't as bad as a 30 year old being sexy for a 10 year old.
She's too old to be pretending she's a sesame Street character.

As someone said in this thread earlier, Katy is performing in a time where she has strong anti-fanbases.
---
Fanbases are a minority in the general scope of the world. I can count on my hand how many times I've met a stan in the real world, shockingly one of them was a KatyCat (I thought I would meet a little monster or Britney fans before a Katy fan)
Even then, the countless "directioners" and 5SOS fans I've met were horribly casual compared to communities such as ATRL.
The general public don't have their priorities set on bashing/praising artists and their music. When they watch some music award show, they'll think "oh wow that was a good performance by X artist" not "LMFAOKDJSJJFJDS THAT PERFORMANCE WAS THE 2ND COMING OF CHRIST" or "LOOOOL THAT PERFORMANCE SUCKS, KATY/BEY/GAGA/RIH ETC... WHO?"

She's fun, and people think that only children are allowed to have fun.
In the real world, everyone from toddlers to the elderly love her.

Rihanna is on par with her and Adele isn't one of her "peers"
Rihanna, Taylor and Katy all of them have shown steady sales and not a huge peak then bomb like Gaga since you wanna compare "peers"

Her music became safe with PRISM. It was obvious that she tried covering up for this album. In this industry, unfortunately, if you're not taking your clothes off and you're acting goofy, you're suddenly childish. Katy's main change with PRISM was trying to prove that she can maintain her pop reign without taking her clothes off.

Looking/acting young and youthful does not equate Katy's childish, cheesy characteristics.

No one says that outside of ATRL though.

Well at least part of the whole "act your age" complaint is rooted in sexism (who ever tells male musicians to act their age?), but comparing Katy's eternal tween pandering with Gwen and Fergie is a bit off because the latter two actually do act like adults.
For the record, though, I prefer Katy's "childish" persona. She's a lot more fun and more enjoyable when she's not trying too hard to be serious. She's not a strong enough lyricist to pull off more "adult" themes.
Maturity is overrated, anyway.

Listen, most singers do childish music/themes.
Ke$ha: C'mon video, Blow video, Blah Blah Blah video, Tik Tok video.
Avril: Girlfriend, Here's to never growing up, Rock N Roll, Hello Kitty
Taylor Swift (not giving examples i think theyre kind of obvious), Bonnie Mckee, Carly Rae Jepsen, Gwen Stefani etc. etc.
The reason why Katy gets all the hate because she's the most successful out of all of them and she's got something against your fav so you lash out on her with either this, the grammys, or her firework performance of 2011.
Face it, most Stans here have something against Katy.
Little Monsters: Katy overtaking Gaga's success in Singles in 2011, Albums in 2012, Social media in 2013 and Tours now in 2014.
Beyonce fans: Katy blocking drunk in love from hitting #1, being the only female pop star recently who can match her WW sales with their latest album
Rihanna fans: Katy taking the lead of digital artist in the US, Prismatic tour being more successful than any of Rihanna's tours
and the list goes on. Stans here take success very personally, if someone is doing better than their fav at it, they will get spiteful and attack them. You can try and deny it, but all you want in the end is success for your fav. It's what THEY want and it's what you want for them to keep making music and performing at awards show and slaying your lives.

Because apparently having fun and having some personality equals being childish.

It's because Fergie and Gwen have delievered quality material before. Katy will probably get less flack once she delivers a solid album.
