Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B [FULL REVIEW]
So I just watched Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B
If you have followed my posts then you know that I definately thought this movie should have been scrapped, and I don't recall Aaliyah being named "THE PRINCESS OF R&B"...not with the likes of Brandy and Monica around.
This movie overall was ok, and something to watch if nothing else is on. While many people are hoping the movie will show you something new, give some deep insight and a new outlook on her, like TLC's movie (CRAZYSEXYCOOL) did...this movie will be a let down. The movie is roughly and hour and a half, and the first 30-45 mins of it focuses on her relationship with R.Kelly. I'm assuming that R. Kelly did allow them to use Age Aint Nothing But A Number, or at least snippets of it. They don't really acknowledge her other singles from the album and move into the second album. On the second album you hear a snippet of One in A Million, but thats it! On a night show appearance she performs Choosey Lovers, I'm assuming it's because it's not an Aaliyah song, and Aaliyah's vocals weren't used. And let me tell you this, whoever that is singing as Aaliyah, needs to be stopped. They failed to capture the essence of her soft/edgy angelic tone. That's really all they touched on that album, so they skip to Journey to the past, and simulate the Oscar performance. In the midst of all this, she attends a Roc A Fella party, where she falls in love with Damon Dash, and thats it. They are in love, and inseparable. No real insight into the relationship or anything. Then they skip more of her hits such as Try Again, Are You That Somebody and more. They don't even show her shooting Romeo Must Die, recording AALIYAH, QUEEN OF THE DAMNED, they just skip to the part about her role in the Matrix. Then she is off to shoot Rock The Boat, kisses Dame goodbye, and the movie ends. No footage of what happened, aftermath, nothing. It ends with a 22 second picture slide show.
Overall I'd give this movie a C- at best. Maybe the fans will like it, but I doubt most of them will. I'm sure people will have strong opinions on how rushed the movie is, and the lack of depth that was showed....maybe they wont.

The ratings for this could be abysmal, or people could tune in to see how bad it is. I'm not sure how TV movies work, but I guess it doesn't matter, because Wendy got her coin regardless?

AALIYAH was always ref. as one of the Princesses of R&B w/ Bran and Mo esspecially since she sold more than Mo
@ you confirming the movie was pure TRASH and a desperate attempt of pushing corny rumors as facts in some twisted pedo love story

I can confirm that this post is 100 percent accurate. I have press access to the Lifetime press site and watched the screener earlier this week. Pvt is being generous with his review, the movie is trash. The ending is trash. The lack of music selection is trash. The only highlight is the casting of the girl who plays Aaliyah (who I know from Days of our Lives). I'd advise you all to not waste the 1:26:45 seconds (w/o commercials) if your life that you'll never get back from watching it.
I think of how good the movie *could* have been w/ family input and authorization.

Are you sure bout that? Monica's first 2 albums were 3x Platinum verse Aaliyah's 2xs. Aaliyah has NEVER had a Platinum selling song, while Monica's first 3 singles were Platinum. Lets speak in facts sweetie....not opinions. I talk numbers, not dreams.
