A rock album could be good and successful if she collaborates with some rock legends. It's not gonna sell more than a pop album, but it could definitely help her image and extend her fanbase, I guess. Don't really know much about sales for rock music, but if that's what she wants to do, then let's go.

Multi branding-branching will not work with a music act. Jumping thru genres will do more damage than damage control. If she wants to do it, it will probably be the last thing she does before we find out she ODed

Well obviously you are correct. I cant be sure, but do you think that a rock album would not alienate what used to be her demographic? I mean a Jazz album is a smart move, cause it is a neutral genre, non aggressive and can easily be adapted for a side project, if the talent is there. But a rock album, jumping into an aggressively active genre, with a corresponding demographic doesnt seem like a smart move. To me at least..
