Using terms that have an exclusive value like "always" or "never" in relation to this discussion is probably not accurate. It would have probably been more accurate to say "An informed opinion is almost always better", as there are other variables present.
My main point was that it is better to expose yourself to a wide variety of music by listening to a multitude of albums in order to be informed about music in any general year, which I believe to be true.
I think it is maybe more common (to varying degree) than suggested.
