Love it or hate it — and 50-odd savage minutes of "The Prodigal Son" absolutely affirmed my love for it — "The Leftovers" isn't really like anything else on television, past or present. Structurally, it has a passing resemblance to a few other series (including Damon Lindelof's previous one). But in terms of tone and substance, as well as its focus on the emotional and spiritual health of its characters far ahead of any questions of plot, it's an original. Even with the book to adapt(*), there was no real template for Lindelof and Tom Perrotta to follow in crafting a finale for this season

The Leftovers stays true to co-creator Damon Lindelof's promise that there will be no Answers. You have Nora Durst's silent shout when she's forced to relive the worst trauma of her life, and you have her smile when she encounters a brand new life yet untouched by that kind of suffering. Which one matters most in terms of determining what is real, what is true, what is the point? The universe is as mute on this question as the Guilty Remnant. It's up to us to answer.

This show was bound to disappoint the Doubting Thomases of fandom, who need to put their hands in the wounds and know who was in the outrigger. And that’s fine. I didn’t always get The Leftovers, but I always felt it, and that would have made it a success even if it were canceled.
Next the series, like its characters, will have to figure out what it’s going to do, now that it’s still here. I can’t wait, even if loving this show means embracing it, like the GR, with a combination of faith and fatalism. I don’t expect the answer from The Leftovers. And yet I believe.

I still haven't got around finishing the Election novel.
It's on my to-do list.

If nothing else, the first ten episodes of The Leftovers have proven the show to be unpredictable and emotionally moving in ways that are pleasing to some, and unbearable to others. It is a show that doesn’t merely seek to push people’s buttons, but to lay a hand on that button and refuse to let up. In some ways that hand can be oppressively heavy, while at other moments it is surprisingly light, funny, and affectingly smart. Depending on your perspective, the series is either dedicated in its pursuit to make the audience feel something, or it is ruthlessly bleak.
Love it or hate it, this has been fairly effective on either account for ten straight episodes.

Sure, not everything was sunshine and roses, but after setting up the deaths of several main characters, Lindelof and Tom Perrotta pulled back, instead giving these individuals a new lease on life. Nora chose a newborn over her own death. Jill finally connected with her father. Laurie somehow survived the GR massacre and is now reunited with her first-born. It was an overwhelming hour of television, leaving much to discuss before Season 2. Let's get started.

Basically besides all the reviewers that sound like they would enjoy a katy perry concert, all the leftovers reviews are good.

After Sunday night’s finale of the first season of HBO’s The Leftovers, I felt pity for those that were unable to stick with the series, unable to see the beauty hidden within its complexities and its myriad unanswered questions. Because they missed out on a poignant, if tragically real, story of human nature. On coping. On enlightenment and understanding that despite all the bleakness in the world, there’s an innate beauty in being human. It’s just that sometimes we forget it. Sometimes it has to be relearned.

Gone Girl is a lurid, hilarious and brutally honest trash masterpiece.
As if Brian De Palma remade Hitchcock’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith and set it inside of the wettest dream that Nancy Grace has ever had, Fincher’s latest is perhaps most remarkable for how it exceeds the sum of its parts.
This is one of the great films of 2014.

Fergie's new song is better than expected but I'm so sick of DJ Mustard, the only thing left for it to sound exactly like 99% of his songs are the deep voiced "heys" in the background he always puts
