Britney was the first artist to bring dubstep into the top 40 mainstream music.
Anyways, it's nice to see even people who don't really like her being able to appreciate her legacy. She is deff. pop royalty 100% and anybody who thinks otherwise is just being delusional and outrageous (my sex drive)
HIAM was the first dubstep usage, but it was not a revolutionary move. Skrillex was already super popular and it wasn't like HIAM had such a huge success that people scrambled to mimic it, plus there were only a handful of pop songs that mimicked it and no one would say that 2011 was defined by dub step. It was defined by dance breakdowns post chorus.

Just saw this, I don't think theres any denying that Britney started a trend with mainstream music using dubstep. It became so overused after HIAM. I certainly think Britney had some influence with the fad.
Besides that I don't think FF or BJ brought anything else to the table, however I do appreciate FF putting her back on the map for radio.

The main thing though is that dubstep was already hugely popular and did not become a big enough trend in pop music for it to be said that this sound defined pop music in 2011-2012. The dance-breakdown is the defining attribute of this era. Dubstep fits into that, but it is much broader. The type found in those LMFAO songs, We Found Love, all the Nicki pop songs, etc. exemplify this. It's still present with Break Free. Dubstep was a fad rather than a trend.
She is pop royalty. But lets face it, Britney has accomplished everything she's going to accomplish in her life already. If she keeps releasing albums like Femme Fatale, and that leaked album called Britney Jean, then her legacy will go down hill.

I think that she was, but now there are a few other worthy pop divas who more closely follow in Madonna's footsteps like Rihanna (her hitmaking power, her sexual liberty, her ever-changing looks) and Beyoncé (her performing ability, her command of the industry, her feminism).

BJ has went downhill on my Britney rankings, it used to be my favorite when it was released, but now it is #5 or something like that. It Should Be Easy remains my favorite Britney song ever tho

But you cannot be serious, no matter what Britney goes though in her personal life or the success or lackthereof her forthcoming musical endeavors her LEGACY as a POP icon and, henceforth pop royalty is already cemented.
Sure she can further tarnish that legacy but no one can erase the impact she's had in pop culture or music in general.

Honestly not anymore. Like her legacy is shot in the eyes of MOST like lets be real. At one time Britney was a big deal, & she fell hard. Honestly she never recovered. A few hit songs don't automatically restore your legacy. 5 years of Slayage does not put you in a realm with Michael & Madonna. It just doesn't. Music royalty have one thing in common influence & longevity. Britney can't do a random press conference & sell out a world tour like MJ & Madonna. Don't reply with old receipts because that's just showing what she was not where she is now. Or where she will be in the future. It's like how we talk about Madonna's Slayage even though we weren't alive for most of it, I doubt the pop fans will even mention Britney like that. She's in a class with Kurt Cobain & Tupac. Artist that defined a time period with their music, & influenced artists that had longevity. Beyonce is closer to music royalty & everybody knows that except ATRL but we'll see his it plays out in 20 years. Rihanna's longevity definitely is longer than Ms. Spears
