Something we never discuss please.
Like, let's talk about how we want RedOne back, or how we want Gaga to collaborate with Pitbull, or let's just rate Born This Way songs and bash Bad Kids.

Lets have a healthy conversation about Lady Gaga's upper arms. Or maybe we could discuss how it's only fair to give her no credit for anything pre-2012 and give her total credit for everything post-2012? Take your pick, we've plenty of topics!

can we talk about how small gaga is in person... like I know on paper she's 5'1 ish but actually seeing her up close it's like she's this tiny little creature and then she starts singing and it's like damn where did that big ass voice come from

G.U.Y was okay. She did bunch of radio interviews, radios didn't play it, they moved on, why would they spend more money on dead horse? Gaga also said, that ARTPOP film is for fans.
And Bobby is in charge of C2C marketing campaign He's doing a great job.

G.U.Y. had a perfect video and it's a good song.

 I'm glad you guys understand!
What's funny is that the entire reason Gaga is where she is today is because of how hard she pushed BTW onto people. She was everywhere during 2011 and people got sick of her. Gaga can't keep pushing things into people's faces because she's a polarizing figure. People get tired quickly! The smartest thing her team could have done was what they did do: they moved on.

Or we can talk about how she should starve herself, get back with Luc, do cocaine just to get a few hits so her "fans" can drag other popstars!

Cute, but no. G.U.Y.'s execution wasn't flawless. If it was, she would've charted higher, they would've pushed it to try and grab a commercial or SOMETHING that will help get the song out there. Instead they wasted a ton of money to try and let Gags feel like she's a competent director, wasting a once on a lifetime opportunity to use Hearst Castle as a set for something that could've been epic (not some "woe is me" story), and redecorated some Hotels.
Quick reminder about C2C, it is a DUET record. Although Interscope is the main label this go around, Tony's people are still there too. And the execution seems less messy because, honestly, nobody's really checking for it. It's a different market. Less expectations.
|
The perfect "G.U.Y." execution would've been:
- A radio tour to the biggest top 40 radio stations in the US (maybe even a subtle radio deal. not an "every hour, on the hour" thing, but more "play the song at least 15 times a week, with at least 5 of those spins being during peak hours")
- Hype up the video through various media platforms, releasing snippets here and there. Go on the Today Show, in late April, and premiere the video (or at least the first 7 minutes of it
)
- Do as much promo as she can in May between artRave shows. Talk shows, the iHeartRadio Awards, Billboard Music Awards, American Idol, etc.
Let the song die out, and then release "Gypsy" in June/July just in time for the VMAs.

Oh and she just confirmed she's doing jazz songs on Fashion Week today.
Anyone wanna go ahead and start off the meltdowns or we should start attacking her weight again?

Nope, that's not how charting works. Promotion doesn't equal higher charting, which is something stans don't seem to get. If promotion did equate to higher charting, MTN would have been a top ten smash. Everything about the GUY campaign was perfect. It has a great video released at the right time, they put up the edited version, she got promo on two of the biggest TV shows, etc. That's all they could do considering the album was done and over with. GUY and her promo had more to do with getting her name back out there right on time for the tour. Like, you talk about wasting money and then say they should have nabbed a commercial. Exactly what product could a song about bottoming advertise?
And again, no, you're wrong. The C2C promo so far has been amazing and Bobby is the one behind it. How do we know? Because Tony barely promoted his other albums, meaning all this promotion is coming from Gaga's camp. Everything has been on time, deals have been struck with major networks, every major demographic is being targeted. It's a dream come true.
You can either believe the facts or continue on this "everything Gaga does is wrong" bandwagon. That's up to you.
|
And yet she still missed the biggest promo she's had this year - The Tonight Show. And yes, promo spots help push what you're trying to sell. If it wasn't the album, it was the single. If it wasn't her single, then it was her Brand, as you said, her name! And nothing happened! And you're right we got a good video out of it (coud've been better) but all in all, it missed the mark.
And again, C2C promo is fine, but this is a collab between two camps. What they're trying to do with all this promo (I hope) is get Gaga's "fans" to buy the album. tony's fanbase will buy regardless. It's the gay twinks craving Act 2 they have to secure. Hope it works.

Funnily enough I think good sales are more of a guarantee with C2C than critical acclaim. Tony's last album sold 187k first week and went platinum, and this time there will be two fanbases buying it (plus there's way more promo).

I understand what you're saying, but you're removing the context of what GUY was. GUY was the third single from an album no one cared about and it came months after Gaga disappeared out of nowhere. Major promo made no sense. It would have been a complete waste.
She did everything she could have done: radio interviews, TV interviews, two videos, magazine covers.

You don't do this for a third single off an album that no one cares about anymore. It's a complete and total waste of time and money.

[JL]I believe you because there's no way she could've written that song and included it in TFM. I mean even chimpanzees make better decisions than her [/JL]

I mean, from what I can tell, they were using a "wait-and-see" strategy with "G.U.Y.", and since nothing ever came of it, they just didn't do anything. But if she really wanted to "restart"/"revive" the ARTPOP era like she said in January/February, it would've been good.
