Back when I was a member of the GP I only heard about 1D during WMYB (radio/school dance) and then LWWY because someone made a die young mashup with it (buzzfeed) 
I think most of their success comes from the younger demographic and not really from like the older GP
Although BSE did come on my iTunes Radio a lot and I loved it

their MM singles were played on the radio a lot tho
theyve become much more in the public eye in the last year
not to mention that Harry alone generates tons of media attention
but cos they dont do anything negative really they arent nearly as controversial as bieber thank god
he is more infamous then he is famous whereas they are just famous
everyone ik knows who they are whether they like them or not
they have a huge fanbase of 20 something women
at my show there were tons of fans there that were not 13 year old girls lol
