I love that ARTPOP showed people Gaga cannot be on top all the time, creatively or commercially. I at least hope that for her next record she really commands control over her abilities. I want to say that she is the best pop artist, but after listening to so many new pop records and watching them create masterpieces I just don't know. Gaga is better than most of her commercial peers, but she hasn't really showed it lately. Hoping she walks the walk again!

I think a lot of the crazy biased fans thought that, but most logical ones (I wasn't on ATRL a year ago but I'm assuming most people here were logical) knew that it was going to be a super tough battle, with Katy likely doing better. It annoyed me how they were pitted against each other in the first place, and how one of them would have to be the "loser" because I liked both songs.
I love ARTPOP and think its a great album, but I think it just didn't have a clear focus like the rest of her albums. Seems like she was pretty focused on getting back on the GP's side with it, since its a lot more commercial and less bold/risky than an album like BTW (except for songs like Venus). That, and the way that the way it was marketed with the whole "putting art into pop culture" stuff, had nothing to do with the music.

The concepts for her previous albums fit perfectly.

Gaga can't pull off a stripped album. Her ballads are terrible. She's too shouty with her uptempos nowadays. She needs to do an album filled with midtempos. That's where she shines best (see: Paparazzi, DWUW, SHICD).

I completely disagree, she would make an amazing stripped album. Her acoustic performances of Gypsy, Hair, Edge of Glory, Dope, Speechless, Applause, DWUW etc are all some of her best.
