I'm glad she is paying them dust. I will be too (and that has nothing to do with her - it has to do with there not being a single good performer there other than Beyonce, of whom I have watched do medleys of her songs hundreds of times since she dropped her album).
What should be remembered is that Gaga is unlikely to ditch pop altogether - it's simply a change in production. From dance to rock, but it's still pop and it's still Gaga writing it - so expect big hooks and catchy melodies regardless.
I personally think rock/pop is ideal for her next move. Top 40 is in a very light, pop-y place right now with little depth or theatricality. It's feel good. Logically, people will get tired of the empty calorie hits and crave something a bit more filling and bite. It could either go edgy in an urban/R&B way, or edgy in a rock/pop way. Or both - that's what happened in the 00s. We're hearing fresher, instrumental and less synthy production...which I think will lead to guitars and drum beat. What I doubt it will do is return to dance, or soften to welcome more Adele's or Lorde's.
Regardless of trend though, I think it's a strong, authentic direction. We know it's in her blood and she actually has slight cred in the territory because of being a vocal fan and being praised by rock legends. It would allow her to return with attitude and defiance, rather than 'is this ok?' safe pop. People will see the weakness in her working with hitmakers and attack.
I'd love to hear Gaga doing her versions of Show Must Go On, Fighter, Bring Me Back To Life, Just Like A Pill etc, or lighter stuff like Since U Been Gone etc. Obviously done in her own way. I'm here for big stadium rock anthems, intimate raw ballads and belting love songs. Personal lyrics, incredible vocals and attitude. With a killer look to match.
YES YES YES.
Your posts are always amazing, you should write here more often.
Do you guys still bop to DWUW? I always feel ****ty when I listen to it, pure sexiness I used to think Gypsy is the best song on ARTPOP but It's definitely DWUW, the production is amazing, R Kelly's part is just Gaga's vocals and everything, the smash that got away
