2012 was an incredible year for her, looks-wise. Sure, she gained weight and started using fillers, but I honestly think she looked beautiful. The early ARTPOP era was incredible, but the Venus and Dope mini-era kind of ruined that. What potential she showed for DWUW fashion, and her looks in the video were pretty amazing and the G.U.Y./Roseland month was amazing.
Overall however, BTW/2012 is my favourite era of looks from her. I count 2012 because the looks were still BTW inspired because she was touring the album.

H-I-M is totally right. The reason people got interested in her in the first place was because of her songs and videos and nothing else.

I never thought about this....

I'd actually be here for her faking her own death. Someone brought up on GGD the subject of her doing it for the space performance but I'd prefer if next year, a week before the VMAs she shuts down all her social media and her representatives (Bobby, I guess) announce her unexpected death. A 7 day countdown begins on her website, and she arrives to the VMAs like she wanted to last year, with 'ghosts' in all her iconic looks, before opening the show with her 'funeral' where they seemingly burn her in a coffin but she rises from the ashes like a phoenix
LeT me dream. She'd probably get a lot of backlash but imagine if everyone did think she was dead, and then she pulled a stunt like that. No one would talk about anything else for a week

The US isn't Gaga's main market so to assume most of the views are from the US just doesn't make sense. 'Judas' was a flop single that had a lot of controversy around it and that's the only reason it received so many views. 'Applause' was the first time in nearly three or four years that the public willingly searched for "Lady Gaga *insert single*" on YouTube in order to watch the video, and that was proven by the fact that "Lady Gaga Applause" was the first thing that popped up when you typed in "L" for months following the single.
'Applause' was a great platform for her to start the era. It was safe and got people back on board, and I truly believe 'DWUW' would have smashed had things not messed up. Oh well, maybe next time.
Edit: I don't think video quality matters all that much. The video for 'Dark Horse' was panned by critics and fans alike and that didn't stop the song from being a behemoth. 170,000,000 views on a Gaga video after everyone thought she'd never be Vevo certified again is a success.

I'm not justifying anything.
Applause was a decent hit in the US, her biggest radio song in term of audiences (after inflation), but flopped WW to the point that it didn't even sell half of what Judas did in some market.
So by using common sense, you don't think that most views came from the one market where the song got most of his sales ?
Just an example, the song "Hideaway" was HUGE all over Europe but only has 80 million views.
Jay Sean's Down was a local hit in the US and has 140 million views (and Vevo wasn't even that big when it came out).
Do you now see how much the US weight in ?
------
The video quality does matter. Dark Horse only smashed in Europe AFTER the video got released. You might not like the video, but it's cute and colorful, the GP doesn't need more than that when it comes to miss Perry.
Oh and it also got 2 VMA nominations. How many did Applause's Exorcism get ? Exactly.

That would be because the VMAs are a popularity contest. Applause and G.U.Y. are absolutely incredible videos and are much better than anything Katy put out this era. I love her videos and I know she works hard on them, especially Roar, but she's only nominated because of her huge status in the pop scene at the moment.
The only reason Gaga did such a sweep of the VMAs in 2010 was because she was so big at the time. Sure, Bad Romance is a great video but Born This Way and ARTPOP videos deserved the same amount of awards, if not more.

And I agree, If she would've served a G.U.Y. sized video slayage as the 1st video, things would've been totally different.

I saw this on GGD and it sounds crazy.
I'd be here for her doing something like that.

No, her faking her death is the worst idea ever. The amount of backlash she would get for that would be unreal.

Wait, I posted something very similar before the ARTPOP era even started She'd get dragged to hell and back though

She can't get much worse backlash than she already got though I'd be so damn here for it.

I WOULD love if they announce the death of Lady Gaga and she comes out of the coffin on stage as Stefani Technically they wouldn't have lied if Gaga is gone and Stefani is her new artist name

I like that concept of her faking her death, but too many people would be happy about that.
The backlash when she surprisingly resurrects is gonna be unreal. I mean, they already call her an attention heaux right now

But Applause went 2x platinum in the US, peaked in the top3 and is her biggest radio hit (inflation) in the States, so why didn't it get any nomination in an event based in popularity ?

Messy videos with editing all over the place and produced by PHOTOGRAPHERS deserve according to you as many awards as Bad Romance ? I think we're done here

Y'all need Jesus. If she faked her own death she'd be torn apart by press like when she does anything now

I agree with the rest, though.

Because on the whole, Katy is more popular. And Gaga is, and has been since 2012, the one to bash for everything. The same reason they denied Gaga's amazing red carpet and performance concept last year: they wanted Miley to be most remembered and Gaga to be overshadowed.
