This wont work in reducing piracy really. The thing is people who pirate albums will continue to pirate them as long as there is a way for them , the appeal in pirating is "why pay for something , when you can get it for free?" . Even if they did this those people would still just wait until illegal download sites upload the albums (which is just mere hours of any available release). All this global release day will do is just reduce promotion cost really.
Although I didn't read anything about Beyonce in this article I have to say her strategy was good-for initial sales and preventing the album being pirated for a good 30 minutes. Even with the quality of it raved about it only sold 4 million or so copies, something artists like P!nk, Bruno Mars do quite well without any special gimmick. Point being , its release strategy is quite over-rated since it didn't seem to prevent it being pirated and only had normal-average sales. If maybe she had gone from selling 3 million copies to 10 million copies then it would've succeeded but it was average in sales really
