Unfortunately on ATRL and similar forums, people only post and talk about negative points and blog posts and articles when it comes to Nicki's pop music, of which there were more than a handful, but the ATRL Barbz (all of us) failed Nicki by never pushing out all the positive articles. I tried but stopped after a while, because I couldn't be assed really, and I think it's the same for plenty of others.

The only major opportunity that Starships gave Nicki was American Idol. Besides that, her endorsements like Beats By Dre. partnering with Myx, & starting her own clothing line would have came regardless because she's very business savvy.

The Pop music, while it did gain her a whole new legion of fans, it tarnished her credibility as a rapper. Not many fans of Hip-Hop are open to the idea of their favorite rapper dabbling in Pop music. Starships and the other Pop songs she released pretty much had to make her remind the Hip-Hop community that she is a rapper first and this is where she belongs.

3) Mature, baby making slow jam/mid tempo sensual song FALL
4) Motivational, inspirational, aspirational song WINTER
5) Ratchet, gritty yet still commercial triumphant, feel good anthemic song SPRING
6) Bragging rights stuntin on dem lessers SUMMER

I agree. Starships and the rest of the pop songs on PFRR are more dance-pop, electropop, eurodance, europop and house types of songs. Not EDM really.

As much as I may dislike Anaconda & feel that her lyricism lacked, Starships remains one of her worst singles. I don't care how much success, or what doors it opened for Nicki. It tarnished her image as a pop star & as a rapper, & I refuse to believe there was more good than bad that came from that. Nicki's still til this day repairing the damage left from that song.

True! I LOVE Starships so much, but I am quick to drag it for the bad it has done.

It also did her a great deal of good, but (as Robby pointed out) Nicki arguably could have done it regardless. I definitely think it only really helped her secure the American Idol deal.

It isn't her worst song and arguably isn't her worst single either, but it did far more damage than Anaconda could ever do especially now that she has rebuilt her image.
