It's like saying Born This Way sold better than The Fame just because it was frontloaded (like Ultraviolence will be too). If anyone actually thinks she will have the same longevity
Except Lana had actual global radio hits leading up to BTD and a huge media frenzy/backlash leading up to BTD so this theory doesn't really check out.

Why did her sound magically prevent her from doing well after 2 years of doing well with it?
Because
Born To Die was basically pop music wrapped up in an ''indie'' package.
Ultraviolence sounds nothing like it, it's boring and monotonous.

Que? (not mexican, it's just fun to say) But according to people like Slobro and iHype, Mariah is a global, youthful legend. Everyone loves her. The youth still stans. Why shouldn't she outsell an unknown tumblr fad?

Born to Die had no radio hits in America but still sold well.
Ultraviolence's slower bpm is not an excuse for the lower sales.
-----------------
To her credit, BTD was a slow burner in sales. UV could steadily rise as it picks up momentum...but that's a big maybe

Born To Die: 2 - 13 - 36 - 37 - 40 - 43 - 32
Ultraviolence: 1 - 3 - 9 - 12 - 17 - 18 - 19
Market album sales as a whole being lower isn't Lana's fault.
@Kworb OBVIOUSLY I was only talking about U.S. Sales. I'm talking to iHype!

You're using chart positions as if somehow it changes the fact it's a flop and won't go Gold?

Ultraviolence will obviously not have BTD's longevity. There are no hits like Video Games, Summertime Sadness (hits all over the world) and SS remix (hit in US). She drastically changed her sound and the GP is not here for it.

She used to write for Rascal Flatts and now she has the #1 song on iTunes! She's also apparently a super nice person.

Your fave's most recent album is struggling to get past 1/5 of Gold so I'm not understanding your concern.
It's not a flop. It's selling well. 65k first week and then 35k in the following 2 months is a flop.
