Now, now, I love our girl, but believe me when I say Applause was just not the business. What helped was the sheer fact that she was coming back, a radio deal & that terrible hamster commercial. It's her worst single since Judas.

Wait this has to be a joke. Applause was a huge radio hit and generally one of her most liked songs on the GP.

And it's a great song.

I meant lyrically. It's off putting, and basically a celebration of herself & her stans. I definitely don't think it was her most liked single by regular civilians. That would probably be Poker Face, Bad Romance, Just Dance, or Telephone.

Wouldn't Applause's problem more be that it was too much of a grower and needed time for people to come around to it? Time that folk weren't willing to give because it wasn't a smash on impact like Roar and 'lost' that battle?

If it had been released earlier in summer so that it had time to do its thing, I wouldn't be surprised if it - and the album in general - had faired better.

Applause is maybe not stronger than the other's lead but it's actually the best way to start an era (maybe ARTPOP (song) too). And Applause still sound fresh!!

And Applause is one of her best, it never gets old. My top played track.

Honestly I don't see any other song. Maybe DWUW? But it doesn't represent the album. Aside from that... I just don't know what other song could have been as much as a success as Applause.
