I just gave you an example of different alternative music with the Nirvana and Red Hot Chilli Peppers comparison. Both are considered alternative but one being grunge and the other more funk, yet when Smells Like Teen Spirit blew up it opened the door to other alternative bands. The RHCP blew up with Give It Away.
Besides, UV is also categorized as Dream Pop, which several artists have had big success with.
