TEOM was never a critics darling. The Grammy's loved it, but the critics were just postive about the return to the throwback style and the cohesiveness (kinda) of the album.
It wasn't a flop coming in. Shake It Off was a top 20 hit and the album sold like 400K+ First week.
I certainly don't glorify them the way others do, all I was referring to was their standing in modern culture. They are certainly a LOT better than any boy band though and have many brilliant songs.
