Actually, it cannot.
BOMT has an iconic song, but "Hit Me Baby One More Time" never was used in normal conversation in the same way "Put a Ring on It" has been.
It's choreeography is distinct but if you went up to someone in a mall they probably wouldn't get what you're doing if you did a bend and hair flip. If you did the hand-gesture or even some of the Single Ladies moves (especially with 2 background dancers) it will be known.
BOMT costume is very iconic, but I can see people being confused for just being a sexy school girl, not Britney in 1999. Plus, the schoolgirl outfit is the only really iconic costume from the video. The other ones yes, if you know pop music but wearing it to a costume party will not get the same level of recognition as the Single Ladies leotard.
And yes there is a TV show called
Single Ladies.
