I agree.
I think both Lana and Sam have released really great albums this year. Frozen would be an amazing choice too, for it's achievement as a soundtrack alone.
But I would say that Beyoncé aside, Lana is the most deserving. Ultraviolence is technical excellence, but so is BEYONCÉ. It is also Beyoncé's greatest artistic achievement. I have a very critical ear and I listen to everything, so I'm a little annoyed that people are even considering Ed Sheeran's X, primarily because it's only a few weeks old. He could of done so much better, in my opinion, because he has.
Anyway, about what you said about publicity is kind of a true for an artist of her size. But that isn't necessarily a deal breaker.
I'm excited to see the results though. I won't be disappointed either way, I know how great this album is. I listened to it last night and was slayed all over again.

This. Impact is not a judging factor, but artistic achievement is. This album was paramount not only to her as an artist, but for an industry. It was an achievement for an industry.

I guess since "4"'s unwarranted snub, I don't really trust the Grammy committee. I mean, no even an AOTY nom. Total BS. No, I just go against what I think the expected is. I expect self-titled to win, therefore it probably won't.
And UV is a mess bae.

4 got mostly what it deserved, in my opinion, but i'm not gonna open that discussion back up because her fans love that album. It was mishandled from conception, and it's change in direction is apparent. While the records were some of her BEST individually I just don't find it to be a good body of work as a whole.
Considering the 2012 Nominees for AOTY, I think it should of gotten a nom, but the winner was deserved. I would of rathered her not be nominated than lose in THAT field, however  .

Aside from RTW, 4 is a really cohesive album. But eh. Didn't Adele win? Ha overrated album...
And I listened to the UV snippets and couldn't deal.

You should give UV a try. I don't think it's a better album than BEYONCÉ but it is a technical masterpiece for sure. This is not an ode to Lana but to the mixing, mastering, and production team that was on it. Vapid context aside, it is very well produced and the audio engineering is very well done.
It's a contender in my eyes for technical prowess alone. Give it a straight through listen.  Also Sheeran's X, and the other albums that they are touting Beyoncé against. Perhaps your expectations will change.

I can't deal with her vocals the same on damn near every song. I lived for BTD, but this isn't doing it for me. And no amount of great production will add quality where the artist lacks it. No thx.
I don't know who Ed is...
If Bey doesn't win, I think Sam should. His album is great, but I know I'm in the minority on this one.

I've listened to Sam Smith's album many times, listened to Ultraviolence many times and BEYONCÉ many times. I paid for all 3 and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that BEYONCÉ is 10000x better.
The problem with Ultraviolence is that the first half of the album is out of this world amazing then it's just filler. The first 5 songs are amazing. My God!! But the rest is a snoozefest.
Dan's album is the weakest out of the 3 mentioned but it's also a great album.
