I think some people expected her to do big digital and streaming numbers out the gate. It's a slow and steady process with Nicki, generally.

Some of my faves WISH they could have a stable single like PnP on iTunes and wish they could have a single crack the Top 40 like PnP will most likely do w/ this week's Billboard update.

I like that she causes so much "confusion" between her fan base. It's amazing how versatile she is.

I expected that, but I'm not a bitter becky, she still has 4 more days. 1 million is actually great for one day with a song that isnt even a top 20 on itunes or billboard chart.

You still don't get my point. Have a think about it.

I understand what you're saying. I think everyone is referring to the charts, as in the Hot 100, while you're referring to the profitability of the genre itself.

Exactly. Alot of her songs have been slow gainers in the past.

I'm just here reading the madness and taking it in. POP GIRLS. Peaked at top 30 and fell off the 1000 in a matter of DAYS and Oniki has been stable for a week. That's amazing to me and a sign of her digital power.

If you paid more attention to its radio performance you wouldn't even be worried about iTunes or Billboard, but you don't.

Yes I stan for success, but not as much as the music. It depends on the situation also. It Nicki did all she could to promote it and it still flopped then I can't be mad because the GP doesn't like it. But if she didn't even try to promote it then I'd be very pissed. As long she satisfies me musically, I'm good.

That's right!
So Disclosure for example are likely making a lot more money this week outside the Hot 100 Top 20, than say Chris Brown who is within Top 20.

Fair warning: this rant was written on mobile and I might be delirious.
I've been thinking this since even before PNP came out, but it ties into why I think it's such a great lead single choice.
Basically, I just think we overestimate how much the GP knows about, cares about and pays attention to genres. Sure, the average person could probably tell the difference between (for example) heavy metal and dub step, but they're not so quick to label things like stans do. They don't come up with little monikers like "hip pop" or "crossover". They don't insist songs have elements of this genre or are influenced by that genre.
More than anything, the GP listen to songs for hooks (mostly lyrical hooks, but also melodic ones).
And that's what started the backlash in the PFRR era. The lyrics to Starships were incredibly stupid, to be blunt. Don't get me wrong, I love the song, but you can't avoid it. The chorus was just plain childish.
And that ties into why releasing Pills as the lead was such a smart move. It's not about hip-hop versus pop or mainstream versus urban or whatever. It's not about the crossover appeal (although I admit that helps).
The lyrics actually make sense. The chorus is catchy as hell, but still mature. The bridge is subtle and effective (albeit rather simple). And the verses are air tight.
Sure, there might be a vocal minority in the GP who are turned off by Dr. Luke's production, but overall I feel like the GP will really respond to the new sound Nicki has taken on in Pills. It'll do a lot to rehab her image after the damage done to it last era.

How do YOU know I don't pay attention to the radio updates. What are you even talking about?
I read all the updates that Willy puts up here along with Maxx. Who said I'm worried about the iTunes or Billboard positions? In this thread I'm the least worried about that now.
You can go and be shady somewhere else because I'm stating my opinion on the song just like the rest of us.
