when will your faves flops get Vevo certified?

but if im not wrong, all of katy's 'flops' are at least platinum. with the exception of birthday (which is her current single?)
so vevo certification is more impt than sales?

I'm just waiting for a Stan from another base to tell me a single that Rih massively promoted that flopped.

Rihanna has plenty of hits, there's no denying that, but this statement just isn't true. Here's the ratio of Top 10 singles to those below the Top 10 for Gaga, Katy, and Rihanna in the US. (I included singles each artist is featured on as well, since some of Rihanna's biggest hits are features.)
Gaga: 13/18 singles
Katy: 13/19 singles
Rihanna: 25/54 singles
Now, if you find the common denominator for each, it's easier to see how they match up. (These numbers are a bit outrageous, but what can I say? It's the lowest common denominator. What they mean is that, based on their current hit-to-flop ratio, theoretically, if each artist put out 18,468 singles ( ), Gaga would have 13,338 Top 10's, Katy would have 12,636 Top 10's, and Rihanna would have 8,550 Top 10's.)
Gaga: 13,338/18,468 singles
Katy: 12,636/18,468 singles
Rihanna: 8,550/18,468 singles
I reiterate, Rihanna has plenty of Top 10's - just under twice as many as the two other artists I mentioned - but using her hit-to-flop ratio as a reason to ignore her underperformances is flawed logic.
And before some of you come at me - and you will - I'm not bashing any of the artists I mentioned. They all have their strengths, and they all have their weaknesses. I'm just pointing out some flawed logic on the part of some fans, and nothing more.

why dont we base this on #1s?
13 / 49 singles (dont know where your number comes from... but...) = 27%
3 / 18 singles = 17%
9 / 20 singles = 45%

Even if this was true, what's wrong with rush-releasing? Rush-releasing is actually the smart thing to do to mark the GP forget and move on to the next big smash hit. Look at Dark Horse and Unconditionally. You say rush-release like it's a bad thing hahahahaha

I've never said it was a bad thing or something was wrong with it. You all took as shade. The thread asked a question and I answered.

Yes sis, they RUSHED Where Have You Been even though it was released 6 months after And your argument doesn't even make sense because Cheers wasn't a flop and WFL came directly after that. Try again. Girls WISH they could chart as high as Rihanna's flops.

Of course, but this isn't a competition. You're just asking why she's forgiven, and like this person said:
There's nothing to forgive. No one forgives Rihanna because she picks up her **** and she moves on. People don't see What Now as flopping because no one ever really expected it to smash. That was her expressing her artistic integrity with that video. That was risky af, especially when she had Jump, Nobody's Business and Phresh Out The Runway on her album.
|
What Now doesn't seem that risky. The only edgy thing is the video which I think people are used to from Rihanna. What Now as a song has a big chorus and coming off of Diamonds and Stay's success I don't see that as a risk.

This.
I'm still mad that CKB flopped so hard. I mean she promoted everywhere she even went to a country music awards to promote the song.

I got the Rihanna numbers from here. I know it's Wikipedia, but how else was I to find a list of all her singles? I assumed it was correct, my bad.
And yes, Rihanna and Katy have so many #1's.
But my point still stands. Even if you just include #1's, Rihanna's ratio isn't stellar. But again, those 13 #1's are extremely commendable. It's just the ratio that's not.

I mean, can you imagine Katy or Gaga releasing yearly albums filled with urban songs like Pour It Up or Cockiness?
Only one ICON can do this.

Well she is the most successful female artist in UK for example after Madonna.
Rihanna is the only female artist to have a number one hit single in five consecutive years in the UK, and also secured the longest running number one of the last decade with 2007’s ‘Umbrella’, which retained the top spot for ten consecutive weeks. She has achieved 3 million selling singles in there. Her success is too big and global.
