Nah, I learned about it when someone said it was the longest-running #1 of 2011 with 8 or 9 weeks #1. It hadn't finished it's run yet, but had basically been peaked (it spent 2 weeks #1 in 2012).
The Pussycat Dolls, iPod Nanos, B'Day era, Chris Brown, and "Bad Day".
It's weird how at this point there is such a thing as "old Rihanna". With Katy, Gaga, etc all their material still feels like it's part of this era but when "SOS" was smashing the pop world looked completely different "Pon de Replay" was competing with Goodies era Ciara, The Emancipation of Mimi, Gwen's solo debut, etc.
Calvin's voice is so bad till it turns around to being amazing.
He's like that one drunk guy @ karaoke straining and struggling to sing 'All Of Me'.
D-grade vocals, A for effort.

Edit : I just remembered ISOH and his 'sex operator voice' for some reason.
It's funny how I started becoming a real stan around the Birthday Cake fiasco. I was always a casual fan. Take A Bow was my song all the way through 2008 it was all I listened to. I remember asking my cousin what she meant by 'you're only sorry you got caught' like what did he get caught doing? I was like 10

"Pon De Replay" smashing when music was still somewhat in a ghetto phase.
Katy's feels kinda old too, because I'm younger. In 2008 when I heard "I Kissed a Girl" I was still young and weirded out by the song.

I remember it's release. We were listening to the radio at school and the DJ was talking about some new Rihanna song, I'll admit I didn't really like it at first
I watched the video the day it came out too, till this day it's my favourite music video of all time
Rih was the only artist I listened to for years. I used to have a Shut Up and Drive single that I would force my dad to play in the car and turn it up really loud. Obviously, I thought it was about a car at the time.
