I was at the hair salon and started sobbing when Amy died. It's still hard for me to listen to her music now
I was pretty ignorant about Whitney before her death. I knew her signature songs, her gifs, her relationship with Bobby Brown, and the crack jokes. That was about it
I've never been affected by a celebrity death really. Cory Monteith shocked me the most, like actually made me feel a bit numb and genuinely sad (not sure why, never watched Glee, was probably the fact I didn't know of his past unlike Amy and other young deaths) but other celebrities I just feel too detached from to ever get that upset.
Although MJ's death was so big. My mum is so anti-pop culture and stanning in general but she woke me up especially to tell me MJ died as if it was a member of the family. It's interesting. Every single person spoke about it in school that day. No one else could ever have that sort of reaction.

I know you're young but damn. So, prior to his death, you never heard; Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Man in the mirror, Billie Jean, etc.

I remember the morning that he died I got into school and my teacher was weeping. We had an assembly that day too with like a tribute to Michael since our head teacher was such a stan
I actually didn't know much about the paedophilia allegations till after. All I knew then was that he was a singer who bleached his skin

Are you serious? I'm only a few years older than you but I grew up listening to the Jackson 5 and MJ. He was a staple in my home and the dance studio I frequented. All of my music teachers growing up loved him. What kind of sheltered life did you live?
And yeah I cried the night MJ died and when his kids spoke at the funeral
I knew of "Thriller", but didn't know he sung it.
I only thought of him as some pedophile people talked about, and Ronald McDonalds, 'cus in 1st grade @ some sleepover my friend told me he was Ronald McDonald.
His image was completely tarnished to no return before his death.

If you're a Gaga fan, especially one who witnessed the pop glory of the Monster Ball in 2010, it's no fun to see her fail on her home turf. But truth be told, there's a vast difference between a great Gaga song and a mediocre Gaga song, and for all her glitz and grandeur, great songs are the reason so many of us adore her. She might live for the applause-applause-applause, but it was the songs that got her there — and when she skimps on the songs, it's amazing how fast the applause dies down.
