"First Love" is cute but basic. Definitely a throwaway track Max Martin had lying around.
Is it me or since he's decided to go solo with productions on "First Love" and "Problem" (before he always co-produced with someone else, whether it be Dr. Luke, Shellback, etc), his productions sound a bit basic?
Like, they're both well-produced pop songs but for a Max Martin track the productions are a bit generic and uneventful (I know MM does generic pop but it always has that EXTRA shine and X factor that sets it apart, like a really special riff or a huge wall of sound no one else can imitate, while these songs don't really tbh).
