A problem I've had with this era is the concept of ARTPOP. Her entire career as been ARTPOP, and trying to define it and give it some sort of a meaning was career suicide, to be completely honest. She completely killed all the magic she had in her music and performance art by trying to substantiate it. And in the process, she's lost all essence of what it means to be a performance artist. It's frustrating. The entire concept should've been shot down from the start. Not sure if Interscope or Gaga or Troy is to blame more.

Well yeah artpop shouldn't have been the concept. Like she could have just kept incorporating art into music and everything would have been fine. But she's SHOVING it in our face when labeling it to the point where it's a joke

i honestly think it would've done well as a single but TF and leading to TFM eras were done well so i won't complain.

the real question is why weren't DITD and Monster ever released as singles

I think the transition was done well as well but Starstruck was Gaga's Dark Horse and the song slays. It deserved to be a single. DITD and Monster are two other examples of wasted songs. I don't understand why they left so much time between Alejandro and BTW.

I'm listening to The Fame/Monster and it's amazing how controlled the production is compared to Born This Way and ARTPOP. They sound so clean compared to the other two. This isn't me trashing the albums. Born This Way is my favorite from her.

Gaga wanted to release a 4th single from TFM, but she was already actively working to complete BTW, so she felt it was best to end the era after Alejandro. Honestly, she was right. TFM is the perfect trinity of videos. A 4th video might've ruined the flow if it wasn't as good as those 3.

I wanted Monster as a single, but it was probably best for her to only do 3 singles.

Also, can you imagine how (even more) overexposed Gaga would've been in 2010 if she had released more than 3 singles? The public would've been tired of her by BTW's (the song) release. Besides, the meat dress would've overshadowed anything she was doing musically at that point.

She needed that short gap between TFM and BTW to at least give the GP a tiny break. Just a tiny one.
