I got into Mariah with TMB when it first came out, and bar hearing FLAB on gospel radio, paid her dust since then. Sometime at the start of 2013 I got into her postTEOM hits, delved into the albums 2005 and onward, then got into her pre2005 number ones. Now in 2014, I'm experiencing her pre2005 albums. So far I've bought Daydream and Butterfly, and Butterfly was right up my alley. Love it. I think Daydream is a teeny bit too pop/AC, so I guess that's why I liked Butterfly better.
What album should I get next? I currently own MOAIA (Least favorite), E=MC2, TEOM (Favorite), Butterfly, and Daydream.

Sure but YME is that damn clapping production we have been getting since 2005 Memoirs was 17 tracks of that DAMN clapping beat. I ignore it but holy crap MC GET OVER IT If she serves that first grade Big Bird ABC clap on this album for more than 3 tracks...

Based on what you said about Daydream and Butterfly, Music Box should be your next stop.

I'm interested in your opinion on EMC. Your situation's really similar to mine, what with listening to her no1s and latest albums first. I felt like EMC, while not her strongest work, is a good gateway to Mariah. Would you agree?

Y'all have been so active today! Slay bitches
I'm so happy Retro has joined us! Daydream, Butterfly, and Rainbow never disappoint
The other night I had seven one too many splashes and after ruthlessly dragging Jermaine Dupri on Twitter I retired to my bed. It was 2:11 and I was stressing so I played Rainbow and I saw the light!! It truly is a magnificent album. So uplifting and positive! It's my fifth favorite officially. After Memoirs and before Emotions.

You really have to capture her aura through her greatest his and then allow yourself to fall deeper into her more personal, sometimes slower, work. Those four are some of my favourite MC songs too; despite having listened to her my entire life, those songs still get me today. Have you listened to the MTV Unplugged version of Emotions yet? Honestly, I think I have more plays of that version than the original- it's breathtaking and so heavenly.
Her first three albums are the ones that usually get overlooked by newcomers. They don't really catch on to people that are extremely attached to today's EDM/dance music. They are very Gospel-esque (ESPECIALLY Emotions) and 90s R&B. Great albums though, I love all three of them and I'm glad you enjoyed them as well. Just WAIT until you get to Daydream! It's easily her best album and I don't think anyone that's listened to it has been disappointed. Based on your other favourite artists, I think you're going to love Rainbow. It gets criticized a lot on here ( ) but it's my personal favourite.
I can't believe new Mariah is actually pulling in new fans. You're Mine is an AMAZINGGGG song; it crawled into my top 5 on last.fm a day after it was released. There's something hypnotic about it that really captures the listener and takes them to another place. It's some of her best vocal work in recent years too.

!!!
I recently re-listened to Emotions for the first time in years, and I forgot how hard the intro to You're So Cold SLAYED me The album in general is so underrated imo, people always talk about Daydreamsus or Emancipation as her best work, but Emotions is right up there too.

What's Mariah's worst cover?
I think I'll go with Against All Odds (of course it has to come from Rainbow ).
