I think she did. Once it peaked, the decline was rapid, which makes it seem like once Interscope cut off the money flow, stations dropped it immediately.
Y'all are getting paranoid. Had Gaga really had payola we would have had Applause or DWUW above 200M Airplay. Applause struggled to reach 130M and I'm not even sure if DWUW broke the 90M line

Strings always make Gaga's songs better it seems like, I want her to have more of them The added ones in the live version of Alejandro are amazing, I loved how they sounded on Edge of Glory when that girl did it on The Voice last week, etc.
