I agree that the song isn't bad, it just shouldn't have gotten the Grammy over TBC, which had to take a dive because Carrie won the year before. DoY, GG, IDWTNTE and EIIBYH are the only other great country songs that year, but GG couldn't be my choice, either, because then it would place Carrie in the same predicament.

Reviews for Blown Away
Quote:
‘Blown Away’ will rub some the wrong way, but the best songs always do. Underwood needs to be congratulated for throwing safety to the winds of Oklahoma. This song is dangerous, but irresistible. - Taste of Country

Mark Bright's brooding, atmospheric production and Underwood's bold performance elevate this cinematic tune to an instant classic. When the girl shuts herself in the storm cellar, leaving her alcoholic father passed out on the couch in the path of a twister, you can almost feel the wind. - Billboard

"Blown Away" is the kind of song that comes along so rarely. It has all the markings of a career song — one of those songs that is remembered for years to come, like "The Dance." It's the kind of song that grabs hold of you from the first note and never lets go. It's the kind of song that makes itself known by sounding like absolutely nothing else on radio. It's the kind of song that provoked me to write a longer review than usual. I have rarely been this passionate about a single, but trust me on this one. "Blown Away" is a milestone song. - Roughstock

Underwood can sing with power that most of her peers couldn’t approach, and her vocal range on “Blown Away” is as impressive as always. - Engine 145

It’s clear that Carrie has matured and grown more comfortable with edgy material.
Two of her most arresting performances come via delectably dark songs. In the chilling, vengeful title track, a girl seeks shelter from an oncoming twister as it blows away the remnants of her harrowing past—including her abusive, alcoholic father. - Country Weekly

So not only was Blown Away one of the most acclaimed country singles to be released in 2012, but it also was one of the best country songs to emerge in years. People praised the story telling, Carrie's vocals and the risk she took with a darker subject matter. I can't think of any song that deserved the Grammy more than Blown Away other than Springsteen.

I've always hated that song. The minute it outsold "Love Story" and took "If I Die Young's" Grammy, it sparked an eternal grudge in me

First of all, "Springsteen" is nothing to "Blown Away." Let's not get that twisted.
Second, I think you're getting the sense that I hate "Blown Away"/didn't want it to succeed. I've praised its lyrics and her vocal performance (much like most of those reviews), but I do not like the melody nearly as much as DoY's.
Third, I didn't say DoY deserved the Grammy over Blown Away, I said TBC did. With BA out of the picture because it's next to impossible to win twice in a row, then GG and DoY would be my other choices for Best Country Song from that year, but GG would run in to the same trouble because it would also invalidate TBC.
I think you're getting this picture that I'm trying to invalidate Carrie's awards/achievements/songs/etc. when I'm really just praising "Two Black Cadillacs."

Now I'm confused. Are you asking why Hunter's bar is red in the poll options?

HH's debut album sold 1.2M and is still selling thousands copies per week.
Luke Bryan's debut album sold 450k. Didn't even reach gold and no hit singles
This means?

Who Did
The only real Grammy worthy song Luke deserved was for "Do I"

We're not at this again are we
Luke Bryan got his first #1 single off of his second album (Do I only reached #2).
Are you saying Hunter is going to peak at #1 with Invisible and or outdo Luke Bryan even if his single hasn't reached the top 20 of Country Radio (its at #22)
Especially after his debut album did so well!
(this gives me sophomore slump teas tbh which, to remind you, Luke Bryan didn't have a sophomore slump album)

Singles after Invisible will def do better. And even if Invisible flopped, what's the big deal? HH scored 2 No.1 singles, some top 10 already from his first era alone.
HH didn't wait too long to take over like Luke.

Both are promising but it's clear Luke is way ahead. "Invisible" is flopping and it's Hunter's lead single, whereas Luke is scoring hit after hit.

So you think because he's flopping right now that Hunter shouldn't worry about maintaining a future in country music (the mainstream one anyway)
At least country radio still plays music from any of Luke's albums regardless of how long Luke took to release his music

If Invisible wasn't about anti-bullying and was about love, breakup or even partying or beer instead like Most of Luke's songs, it would def smash.
Even Bie an HH stans didn't expect Invisible to smash. We knew it would flop. This time of song can hardly smash.
