Tales from the Crypt, sometimes titled HBO's Tales from the Crypt, is an American horror anthology television series that ran from June 10, 1989 to July 19, 1996 on the premium cable channel HBO for seven seasons with a total of 93 episodes.

Because it was aired on HBO, a premium cable television channel, it was one of the few anthology series to be allowed to have full freedom from censorship by network standards and practices as a result, HBO allowed the series to contain graphic violence as well as other content that had not appeared in most television series up to that time, such as profanity, gore, nudity and sexual situations, which could give the series a TV-MA rating for today's standards. The show is subsequently edited for such content when broadcast in syndication or on basic cable. While the series began production in the United States, in the final season filming moved to Britain, resulting in episodes which revolved around British characters.

I have a bit of a tragic story attached to this show. So, first off we don't get HBO (waste of money) but I use to love the cartoon series when I was a kid. I use to get so excited every time it came on and my mom would always watch it with me. Anyway, when I was about twelve my mom saw a VHS that had 3-4 of the episodes from the rl/HBO version of the show at the rental store. She was so happy when she brought it back home for me. We decided to make a night out of it; pop, popcorn, candies, chips- the whole nine-yards. We settle in and start watching it. First episode is pretty good. It was about a guys wife who tried to burn him alive in a casket. Second episode starts. It's okay, a little weird in the middle with some butt scenes and making out. It's an okay episode though, about a swamp or something.

Third episode starts.

Full on screaming, moaning, butt, boobs, penis.

My mom screams and quickly covers my eyes and turns off the TV with the remote.

... then the next day I finished watching it while she was at work.

I've been meaning to watch the entire series bc I love horror anthologies.

LOL Yes there are some episodes with some sex content but besides that the show is great.

BTW I really loved the cartoon version, too!

Yes, I loved the one about the woman who wanted to be beautiful, so she did everything she could and of course, it backfired. So damn good.

I don't think i ever sat down and watched a full episode before, but i would see it on television quite frequently when i was younger. The character crypt keeper would always interest me.

My parents watched a lot of Twilight Zone though.
