Not brushing your teeth may lead to unsavory breath, but chewing on a piece of licorice root was a common remedy for those sorts of nasty side-effects during colonial times. I grow licorice in the garden at my estate so bad breath is never a problem for me; just ask my husband Jeffrey if you don't believe me!
