Guys, really! I believe people who are not enjoying this album are going through a moment of their lives which they can not connect with love songs... They will probably go towards the dance songs, or like ydcam kinda thing. But I'm sure as soon as they feel that pit on the stomach, or even in love with someone they will go crazy with these songs. I mean, come on, how Shakifans, go back and forth to antologia's kinda songs every once in a while when they feel in love with somebody? I'm not in love now, but I do appreciate most of the songs, because this is what Shaki is about, though her songs I have to confess I would like to be in love so bad now to write down those songs or even play it with the loved one.
But COME ON!!! THESE SONGS on Shakira. Are really well written, produced and I love most of them. I'm that kinda person who supports songs with meaningful lyrics that you can sing every where not being ashamed of. I like her dance songs, because you can dance and party or even smile, but come most of them are a bunch of nothing more than 1 part and 1 bridge and then all reppeaaaating again.
This album might not be her best one, But is actually full of good stuff! I get PD, LS tears sometimes, as also OF that has my favorite, Dreams for plans!
Nha... Feel so much better now! pls don't hate me tho! just saying

Ok, so after giving this a couple of proper listens, this is my rate:
Dare (La La La) 9/10 - Extremely solid dance track that smartly stands out among the other songs for its tempo and the carefree joy it gives off. Amazing album opener, although it may not be the most truthful opener in the sense that the rest of the album differs abysmally in tempo and themes.
Can't Remember To Forget You 7/10 - I mean it's ok and it nicely fuses rock and reggae, but it's by far the weakest offering in this album. It remains a good bop though...
Empire 9/10 - Impeccable production, Shaki's voice really suits the track and the lyrics are simple yet thoughtful. It has this sort of magic/mystery vibe to it that makes it undeniably enchanting.
You Don't Care About Me 9/10 - Another great song. The production is so fresh and well-crafted and in combination with the lyrics, the song as a whole serves late-90s-erly-00s realness. It's an awesome throwback.
Cut Me Deep 10/10 - Shaki going full reggae was definitely a perfect choice of genre exploration! She kills it without a doubt. Amazing lyrics, that really go with the music. Magic!'s voice is a great match to Shaki's. Strong, solid and amazing in all levels.
Spotlight 8.5/10 - This song is amazing as well. It serves as a nice change of sound from the previous track and definitely sets the mood of the upcoming second-half of the album. Not a strong one in regards to lyrics, but the melody is catchy and Shaki still manages to sound thoughtful
Broken Record 8/10 - The quality seems to never quiver not even a bit as the record goes on. This song picks up the tempo and mood of the previous track and nicely flows towards the next one. Lyrics are again, simple but strong. Production is not the best, but clearly suits the track.
Medicine 9/10 - Nice arrangement, the two voices dance with each other, such a nice match of vocals. Lyrics are beautiful Production is really country and surprisingly both artists kill it at at it. Another successful genre exploration for Shakira.
23 8.5/10 - Second county-ish song in a row and it still sound fresh, most probably because of Shakira's vocie. The lyrics are among the most beautiful on the album. Very emotional track and Shakira's delight to be singing about his man is sweetly mirrored in this song.
The One Thing 10/10 - Another ace song here. Production is tight, fresh and really joyful yet emotional, which is a rare yet delightful combination. Lyrics are awesome too and the middle eight is a really nice "surprise" within the song. It's a short but amazingly well-executed change of tempo. Overall, one of the most stand-out tracks on the album.
Nunca Me Acuerdo De Olvidarte 5/10 - Not just because it lacks Rihanna, but because the translation does not live up to the true meaning behind the original. It has couple cliché lines, and the song itself is a little less eventful than its English counterpart.
Loca Por Ti 10/10 - Incredible cover. A complete success vocal-wise, lyric-wise, production-wise, meaning-wise, emotion-wise and intention-wise. It is a perfect song to close the album and it really touches the hert of the listener.
That Way 9/10 - Amazing ballad that really adds up to the Shakira element of the album. Would've been a perfect song to precede Loca Por Ti in the standard version. Lyrics are its strongest point and they go pretty well with the production.
Chasing Shadows 10/10 - From lyrics to production to vocals, this song is really special and deserves its status as bonus track since its worth all the extra money it may cost. Simply a flawless track.
Overall (9/10), this album is so great that in that it really shows artistic growth and it is the most worthy of all recent self-titled albums. It really lives up to its name. When you listen to it, you really get to know Shakira, the artist an the person. Who she is, where she is now, the love she feels now and where she aspires to go in the future. A beautiful piece of work, with a back-to-my-roots orientation, yet, fresh, with some new genre exploration, all in perfect balance, mixing the old and the new, the classic and the modern, to create a perfect album, the true, current Shakira. Soon-to-be classic, among Shakira's best albums. I simply loved it.

You took my review right out of my mind - I agree with *almost* everything you said (I like NMADO, not as much as CRTFY, but I would rate it a 7/10). This album is simply beautiful - I think it will be a defining moment in her already impressive, genre hopping discography. You really get a sense of what she's done in the past & where she wants to go from here on out. It almost feels like you're suspended in a moment of time where all of Shakira's past work has come to a crossroad with where she plans on taking her career from here on out - the result is simply fascinating.

This is how I feel too. You can't expect Shakira songs that are similar to DELL or FO, she's in love and happy like she's never been before and you can tell by this album. I like the way she described The One Thing, it made me fall in love with this album even more. She conveyed the way she feels though this album and I like that.
I don't ever want her to do sad songs where she's literally crying, looking for love.

IKR??? I really liked the concept of the crossroads that you said I literally feel like this album IS SHAKIRA, not only by name but by essence. She really poured herself into this, and she was not afraid of stepping out of her comfort zone (like having co-writers and stuff) and it fearlessly paid off I simply love this!!!

I agree with that post about being in love, for me the BEST songs here are the love songs. The One Thing, 23, Broken Record. They remind me of my boyfriend now, he's all I think of when I listen to those tracks, and how caring and generous and loving he is
