In 2010 Gaga announced her album as the album of the decade for BTW, which we all saw how well that went for her, then in 2013 Beyonce did the exact opposite thing Gaga did in 2011, no promo, no announcement, hype was there but only from her fans, and ended up having success, acclaim and had made a lot of impact in the industry for different reasons that Gaga was dreaming for.
So my question is did Beyonce ended up having the album of the decade so far?
I think so far its 21, but with the impact of the surprise release and one week itunes exclusive already having on the industry, BEYONCE might surpass it. Heck, I think Adele might even release her next album with a similar release strategy: no hype, and a short notice.
I think that it will just because of how she dropped the album with no warning. Nobody saw it coming and the album has so many potential singles and is flawless (see what I did there )
Those albums have made the most impact. But 21 is leading by a lot. But BEYONCÉstarted some really interesting conversations about music, feminism and release strategies and just the music industry in general. That's something 21 didn't do. But 21 showed the world that it's still possible to pull a "thriller" if you release the right music. Not that it comes close to Thriller, but considering the state of the industry, it's as close as it gets.
Yes BEYONCE is the album of the decade. It has made more impact than 21. There's a difference between an impactful album and simply a successful album. 21, TD, Loud etc. were all highly successful and will be remembered but BEYONCE is a different level. The album changed the industry, created a pop culture moment, was innovative, critically acclaimed, commercially successful etc.
I don't know if she was joking when she said that, but the level of promotion that BTW received is something I've never seen from an artist in my entire life, so she was really aiming for that
