I agree. Utopia was on point, everybody liked her music, not just her fans. I remember she was at some point the mexican queen of MTV back then when MTV was relevant.

It really was. Ni Freud ni tu mama, luz sin gravedad, Bella tradicion were HUGE hits. This is when I was actually living in Mexico and she was everywhere. And it was all before those surgeries too.

Yuri was the first mexican singer to appear in Playboy, she was the first to wear underwear as stage costumes, the first to win a gaviota in Viña del Mar, she was the first of so many things it's hard to recount, but in short her impact was huge in the 80's and 90's, in the mid-ninties she had a crisis while still being on top (suicide attempt, depressions) and from having a ****ty image she became a christian and semi-retired for 5 years.

In the early 2000's she came back with a balanced image: not that ****ty, not that christian and after some tough years coming back she cimented herself back again successfully in the mexican collective psyche with well-deserved respect (She is very talented, I might say she is the best voice of mexican pop).
