Foolish me, I was watching Roots for the first time and saw that Africa was an Islam nation, now I'm sure there were different religions depending on the part of Africa you were in, but Christianity was FORCED upon Africans and eventually they accepted it.

Ever since the rise of Protestantism, religion has started to slowly denigrate. When it was first put into play, Constantine instituted it as a STATE religion, then the people wanted religious freedom so the US was formed. People were puritans. Sexuality evolved. Women and Blacks were repressed by scripture. They were later granted rights. Now the gay are struggling...but they will eventually win.

The way I see it, religion is just a placeholder for actual knowledge. A lot of those things were written as a way of understanding the world. As we come to understand the world better, the less use we have for religion.

Yeah and I'm happy about it. I think some people have the idea that if there's no religion, people won't have any sort of moral code and will just do what they like. However I don't think that's necessarily the case. Sane people know right from wrong and hopefully should be kind and friendly towards other just purely based on the principle being respectful of other living creatures. You don't need a religion to be a 'good' person.

That's one of the means by which it spreads and consolidates influence, but the basic root of it goes back to our search for meaning/purpose.

So basically he was my project partner, and when he talks he smiles so I can't help but smile too. Ddd it looked so awkward since the rest of the group wasn't smiling at all.

Couldn't you say that (or something similar) about all religions though? Who's to say what's a metaphor and what isn't? Who's to say in which way a particular thing should be interpreted?

But who is anyone to tell someone what to believe in or that something isn't real if you have no proof that it isn't?

And I also think many non-believers use the "the Bible/God/Jesus isn't real" thing to cover up what many people view as wrongdoings or sins so they can have a reason to keep doing it. It's the same case for believers, just in reverse.

Religion is just a complicated thing, so it's not really fair to say what's right or what's wrong about how people feel.

Everything has a beginning and end. That's what we do know is true.
