Beyoncé's album had tons of promo. A $50 million promotional campaign using a song from the album is as big as promo gets in the U.S. Don't make me pull out receipts on songs that went 3x platinum+ thanks to their music videos.

And I don't get why the Beyoncé stans want to pretend their fave does no promo. The Britney stans got radio interviews for Britney's era and not even a single commercial or performance. "No promo" is an ugly world.

1. The Pepsi campaign you speak of was released 8 months prior to the album. People were not still hyped from it.
2. Grown Woman is not on the album. It is a bonus video.

So you mean to tell me 30 seconds of a song that wasn't even included in the tracklisting but appeared as a bonus music video is promo? Radio interviews is promo, especially when she discusses the album. No one was aware Beyoncé was releasing an album

AFTER it was successful already. There was no promo the first 3 hours. So, therefore, no promo can't be used as an excuse for an unsuccessful album.

Exactly. The Super Bowl, Pepsi and H&M were all to improve her brand. She's the biggest Pop girl and works to keep her status.

Here are the facts. Beyonce as a brand had a lot of big things going on for her in 2013. That is not to say that she promoted her album in anyway, but she promoted herself as an artist. This undoubtedly lead to people being more interested in her album. However, none of the things she did would have had the effect if they did not get a generally positive reaction.

Among other things people PRAISED the Superbowl, they watched her documentary in record numbers, they loved the songs in her commercials, went to her concerts giving it rave reviews, they talked about her haircut making it world news, etc. etc.

However, her album which was released as a surprise and only came with an iTunes banner and some behind-the-scenes videos was not promoted in any of these instances. It is a testament to the publics love for her and desire for new music that gave it the initial success it had, and that success was furthered by how great the album turned out to be. Just because Beyonce is well liked as a sort of a fierce America's Sweetheart does not mean that her album was promoted. There is a huge different between being great and having people notice and going from interview to award show to talk show to magazines promoting your album.
