Why don't they just make it so you can type in your own? That way no one is excluded.

Isn't putting such a heavy emphasis on the importance of labels exactly what we're trying to move away from as a society? I have friends that will only be addressed by their names, no pronouns, and won't be identified by a sex. Making such a big deal out of what people call themselves just reinforces the need for putting people in boxes. So counterproductive

Because you have every right to invalidate them and how they feel, right? People outside of the gender binary exist whether y'all say they're attention seeking or not. It's attention seeking when they identify under the trans umbrella, but if a trans kid kills themselves people will misgender them after death and say its a tragedy without realizing they contributed to the death themselves

Other than male/female/trans, what else can you be? This is pretty interesting

This isn't your world, this is everyone's world, and luckily not everyone is as uneducated as you are on the topic.
There are trans* people who are just fine being a part of the gender binary, but you can't invalidate the ones who want to exist on the spectrum because it doesn't satisfy your narrow and ****** point of view.
|
I have nothing against transexual individuals, but I go with the science. Not with people who are desperately trying to stand out by calling themselves "binary". Gender is fixed with your x and y chromsomes.
If this was 50 sexual orientations, I'd say add more because god knows how many preferences are out there.

no worries brah. Shemale is about as offensive as tranny is to a lot of trans* people, so just be careful where you say it and in the context that you say it.

It won't happen again. I was actually trying to think of way to say it without being offensive, but it ended up not working out. I would never call someone who was transsexual a shemale.

I kind of feel like this. Reinforcing gender is harmful because it says that to be a man= dressing and behaving a certain way, and to be a woman= dressing and behaving a certain way and ultimately it harms women. I dont 'identify' as an oppressive gender role, its forced onto me because I was born female

You can check for yourself right now! It's "custom" so you can type in a letter and get the options!
A lot of them seem to be repeated, but for instance they list Cisgender Man and Male, which is two gender identities that virtually mean the same thing (that you identify with the gender assigned to you at birth based on your sex organs)

Taken from Tumblr

Today, Facebook introduced the option of custom gender and pronoun settings on individual profiles, AKA more than just “male” or “female.” The site will now allow you to enter up to 10 different gender identities (out of about 50 possibilities) as well as pronouns — though these appear to only include he/him/his, she/her/hers and they/them/theirs. Changes are live now!
Identities on the list include transgender, agender, cisgender, two-spirit, neutrois, genderqueer, intersex, androgynous, and many, many more.

What in Oprah's name is neutrois and two-spirit?
