TBH it was bashed by people who wanted something edgy and Swinefest-y. It's a Muppet special, it's exactly what it says on the tin.
The two Elton duets slayed, and Gypsy was a good performance despite the lip-syncing. Watch it in segments if you can via Youtube, you're missing nothing by not watching the bits between the musical numbers because it was sans script and sans re-takes. Basically it was Gaga's VMA 2009 red carpet interview with Kermit as her date - awkward, but for some reason still... very Gaga.
EDIT: Actually Beaker modelling the Bubble wrap dress wasn't a bad scene in hindsight.
