Gaga has far better songs than the ARTPOP singles though. You and I underperformed for a Gaga single, didn't it? You and I, TEOG, MTN were my faves from the much maligned BTW.

"Roar" was actually a pretty good song. The lyrics, I agree, are very bland and cliche, but the production is amazing. The drums, synths, guitar remind me more of "We are young" than Brave, actually. Good points, Roar really is perfectly produced, even if it's not an amazing piece of music it's a perfect radio song. And it didn't help Applause that the lyrics were unintelligible or when you could make out what she was saying you had no idea what she was talking about (referring to non-stans here)

It's not you trust me, and as you expressed your opinions they are yours and rightfully so. (just trying to get the thread back on track) I can only speak for myself and what I like as opposed to what other people supposedly like. I also agree, but really "for Gaga" is really all over the place right now. She hasn't had consistency in her career since The Fame Monster when it comes to the whole package so I'm not sure.

I actually like the way she sang the verses. And if Katy's Roar is full of cliches, Gaga's Applause is full of snobbish lyrics that don't really relate to each other. It felt like moments of high-brow lyrics meant to be quoted per line, but with no intention of integration into a whole song...

TBH, I think ARTPOP is a more consistent album than the patchy BTW, and there were moments here when she tried to recapture the craziness, brilliance, and sometimes camp in The Fame. The difference is: Fame was a unique album because it inspired people to do EDM. She was kind of the first person to bring it mainstream. ARTPOP is full of EDM...and was unfortunately released during a period when EDM is kind of a dying genre, and there was nothing here that was pushing boundaries like she did in The Fame.
