Mariah music in the early 90s (before Butterfly) was very manufactured and safe
(production wise) .
Her voice has always been the main point of her songs.
Mariah is also a real singer song writer even at the beginning of her caerrrr. She doesn't steal song writing credits and she ALWAYS defend her writings abilities, Artistic input etc.
(One of the main reasons she had a fall out with sony and the feud with J.Lo)
Comparing her to someone like Katy is like

Her music in the 90s still way more interesting vocally than someone flat like Bernard who is unable to do a thing with her vocals.
