Save Rock and Roll, Pure Heroine and Modern Vampires of the City
I was going to give The Civil Wars a try, I liked their debut single but never got around to listen to their disc.

I understand why it could be seen as boring, cos it's folky and not bombastic etc. But I think being in the right mood really make the songs shine

   IT'S THE TOP 4 ALBUMS OF 2013
#4
ARTPOP
Lady Gaga
2012: Night Visions - Imagine DragonsHighs
G.U.Y.
Gypsy
Do What U Want (feat. R. Kelly)
MANiCURE
Sexxx Dreams
|
Lows
ARTPOP
Jewels N Drugs (feat. T.I., Too $hort & Twista)
Donatella
Fashion!
|
2013 definitely wasn't the year Gaga or any Monster expected. We all expected a huge and bombastic return with tons of commercial success, but what we got were flopping singles and album sales and the backlash of the whole world. While many call this album a disappointment, I find it to maybe be one of her better albums, rivaling The Fame Monster. The production in here is ace. Literally. Listen to it using good earphones/headphones or blast it out using good speakers. Each synth, each crunch of the electronics, each beat just drives the song to such crazy heights. It builds such great momentum for the first half of the album, which is only brought down by the subsequent few tracks (Donatella, Fashion! etc) which is sad. Thankfully it picks back up again with the two heartfelt songs towards the end (which she totally needs to do more), but then Applause as the album closer after the magnificent Gypsy is just wrong. Another problem I find is that, it can get a little tiring after some listens. But I think the production is fresh enough to excite you again.

#3
The Blessed Unrest
Sara Bareilles
2012: Warrior - Ke$haHighs
1000 Times
Satellite Call
Chasing The Sun
December

Lows
I Choose You
Eden

An album that took me by surprised (and surprised me too when I found out it was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys). Actually Brave sorta gave us an indication of her move towards more straight out pop, but every sonic experimentation she took on this album really enhances the music, whether is it the emotion or the lyrics etc. The album is mostly melancholic and the way she does it is emotional. One thing missing is her usual sassy edginess (King of Anything, Love Song etc.) but the music is still quality.
#2
Heartthrob
Tegan and Sara
2012: Born to Die - Lana Del ReyHighs
Drove Me Wild
I'm Not Your Hero
I Was a Fool
Shock To Your System
|
Lows
Closer (I had no choice ) |
In the runner-up position we have the wonderful twins from Canada whom I had the pleasure of discovering this year. This album is more pop than their usual stuff (50% of the albums in my list have gone "more pop"). Though I would prefer their more pop rock/alternative material (So Jealous, The Con), this indie pop sound suits them pretty well too. The album could get a little too polished, but compared to mainstream radio stuff, and the 80s influence, it really doesn't matter. These songs with such strong pop hooks and melodies, with the duo's sweet voice and emotive songwriting, will definitely stick in your brain effortlessly.
RECAP:
20. Yeezus - Kanye West
19. Same Trailer Different Park - Kacey Musgraves
18. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - Various Artists
17. Yours Truly - Ariana Grande
16. Bangerz - Miley Cyrus
15. Don't Look Down - Skylar Grey
14. Reflektor - Arcade Fire
13. Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! - Panic! at the Disco
12. BEYONCÉ - Beyoncé
11. Days Are Gone - HAIM
10. The Bones of What You Believe - CHVRCHES
9. The 1975 - The 1975
8. Save Rock and Roll - Fall Out Boy
7. The Civil Wars - The Civil Wars
6. Modern Vampires of the City - Vampire Weekend
5. Pure Heroine - Lorde
AND NOW THE NO.1 ALBUM OF 2013
IS IT RED LIKE WHAT ANNA AND LHDANG THOUGHT SO?
OR COULD IT BE DEMI?
OR IS IT PARAMORE LIKE WHAT ETERU SAID LONG TIME AGO?
OR IS IT PRISM?

BUT RED TOPPED LAST YEAR
COULD IT TOP AGAIN?

#1
Paramore
Paramore
2012: Red - Taylor SwiftHighs
Ain't It Fun
Last Hope
(One of Those) Crazy Girls
Daydreaming
Grow Up
Proof
Still Into You
Future
|
Lows
Be Alone
Interlude: Holiday
Now
|
AND OF COURSE Paramore rules yet another chart as their self-titled album takes the pole position. So what if they lost the Farros, lost their usual angsty vibe? This album is even more flawless than anything they've ever created. Yes, they're going more pop this time round, but it works! It's not like they're having no guitars and stuff and they're still fundamentally rock. Seriously this album is so perfect imma just talk about how each song is just so orgasmic. Fast In My Car: The damn drums in the beginning>>>>> Grow Up: The damn synths in the bridge and the ending>>>>>> Daydreaming: **** this song is so perfect I just wanna headbang forever and the moments of calmness makes me wanna cry. Interludes: They're so sassy and its a nice breather. Ain't It Fun: Do I really need to explain how bloody crazy amazing this song is Part II: Sequel of LTFB>>>>>>>>>> Last Hope: If this song doesn't make you cry idk what will Anklebiters: Short sweet and perfect Proof: Sweet sweet song that makes me wanna dance forever Hate To See Your Heart Break: Paramore with strings just makes me wanna float to heaven and cry, that strings section at the end>>>>>> (One of Those) Crazy Girls): this just makes me wanna dance like some 60s girl and dammit mental Hayley>>> and that guitar solo>>>>>> Be Alone: boring but I guess I like that alternative sound Future: idc if the ending is too long it's perfect>>>>>>>

Gaga!! I don't care if she flopped or the whole world doesn't support Gaga anymore, for me ARTPOP is great, and so much better than Born This Way so I'm happy with her
Heart Bomb and Paramore! Not my favorite album from Paramore, but is not bad, and I think it's better than Brand New Eyes Amazing end
