Yes she's self aware. She always has been and she knew stuff like this was gonna happen. She knew people were gonna say "GAGA IS OVER!!!!11" since she's seen it happen to so many of her idols...Michael Jackson, Madonna, Britney, David Bowie etc.Paparazzi's music video was all about the downfall of the pop star and stuff so she's always been self aware.

I think the wig could have worked it was just the makeup and outfits that went along with it
