"At first it was weird visuals, with catchy pop tunes, and it worked. Now it's just weird visuals and weird pop music, and i'm a little confused. That Venus song, I mean she was going to make that her second single? What was she thinking, it's not experimental it's just deliberately odd and unrelateable and uninteresting. I had a conversation with one of her old members of the Haus Of Gaga, and she said when Lady Gaga first came out, people were REALLY helping her write the music, she had songwriters and everything but she always made sure her stamp was on there somewhere. Now it's different, she's got rid of all the writers and all the helpers and she's pretty much saying **** all of you, I can do this all by myself. Now the problem with that is, just like when Kelly Clarkson did the same thing, after one really successful album you forget that people can actually help you. I think Lady Gaga's in that phase where I can do everything, and I did everything on Venus... and truly all of us are thinking, yeah I can tell.. Four Choruses and all of them are messy and awfully produced. All Gaga needs is to keep the art, and keep her visuals... but let other people in, and try not to be a one person show, because I feel she's under the impression that having help is a bad thing."
ughh I agree with all of this, lemme meltdown real quick
Not really meltdown worthy, it's kind of obvious this is the problem. She needs to seek and accept the right kind of help.
I don't think this is just her being arrogant and ungrateful, though. She's clearly had bad collaborative experiences and she knows that people expect more from her creatively - she won't get away with having credits filled with Dr Luke, Max Martin, Sia etc. In addition to this, she likes to have her team be friends...so the result is she works with whoever she likes personally, not necessarily who is the most appropriate, talented or experienced.
She's more than capable of creating her own material, but she's either unable or unwilling to edit to top 40 consumption level. Not to say it's 'better', but I do think we have to remember that the ability to make mass appealing hits is definitely not about superior quality or talent (often mistaken when criticising her). She either needs to play the game (collab to mould her ideas into more easily consumed products) or just do whatever she wants (forget top 40 and even pop, but risk everything). At the moment she's primarily working with DJ/producers who have little/no experience with pop hits, so she's having to bring that side of things whilst they produce around it...but she's only got a few years experience behind her and she's created SO MANY songs already that she must be running a little bit low on ideas without another writer fuelling/challenging her.
I personally think she should source upcoming WRITERS (not just producers), and then work with some classic pop hitmakers who aren't 'of the moment' so it doesn't look desperate. Max Martin could work, but it's more Cathy Dennis, Xenomania etc.

I totally agree. Basically in her case, ART and POP CAN'T belong together. She could shine with either one of them, but together it just doesn't work.

I agree, but the reason I'm melting down is cause she's shown no signs that she's going to stop making music like this. She wants to put out an Act 2 which is just going to have the same three inexperienced producers.
I feel like she's done unless she has a major creative resurgence and decides to make top level music again that's both brilliant and accessible.
