I think State of Grace would have smashed in the UK and Ireland. It's similarities to 80's U2 sound would appeal to these markets at least.
I think so as well. Its a nice change of pace from her previous singles too. It would have maybe attracted some people who wouldn't usually think of Taylor as an artist they would want to listen too.
Radioactive smashed cause its a song from a new Rock act. Tay Tay has been in the business too long to try to smash on those genres. AC and HAC are the only ones where she could smash. Plus Radioactive says radio hit much more than SOG does.
I just think that she should have experimented a little bit this era rather than going for the same formula. She had nothing to lose. And everytime I hear it, it feels like a smashed that got away

Yeah I see what your saying. I would have liked it as a single too. I just don't think it would have done anything on those formats. It could have done as well as EHC did on pop though and maybe even better on AC/HAC with a slight chance at getting some spins on rock and alternative stations once it smashed hard on those other 3 formats.

In 2013, State of Grace was added to the playlists of BBC Radio 1 and 2. However it was not a single in UK, just a promotional single in 2012. It was added because there was demand for it and the DJs/Producers who chose the Playlists liked the song. I wanted Taylor to release it in the UK but she released The Last Time instead.

SoG is my fave song from Red but I think it'd have flopped as a single. Didn't they kind of test SoG with the X Factor performance and it didn't get any boost from the show. (The performance was the pits though ) On the other hand IKYWT was a smash waiting to happen at that time.

The song woulda worked as a single had they directed a cute black and white video with Taylor walking down the street and observing the other people. I always imagined the video like this. She's walking along the street and singing. We would be given several stories about love, for example a marriage fighting before going to work or you know.
