|
That's true also. She can't be expected to just write another diamond-certified single in her sleep. Bad Romance might always remain her biggest-selling single, and that's okay. But I can assure you that, when I say Bad Romance is her best song, I genuinely believe it's her best song. The last chorus of Bad Romance alone is the best thing I've ever heard from her. The video only makes it better.

I so agree. Bad Romance just slays everything for me, the song, the video, the looks, the performances. That's why it's my fave too.
I don't care how big it was.
See, Poker Face is a good song but it would never be in my Top 5, maybe not even Top 10 Gaga songs. Eventhough it was one of her biggest hits.
On the other hand I stan so hard for Venus eventhough I know it probably wouldn't be a hit.

Bad Romance and Telephone were delayed because of editing and she made sure to update us when they wouldn't be on time. TFM era's flaws seem kinda minuscule in comparison to some of the problems with this era.

Well no, a lot of really crazy stuff went down and everyone hates Alejandro. A lot of people disliked Telephone too so the whole "we expected good" kind of stopped after Telephone. It was that people just didn't pay attention. Even when she looked bad and wore ugly outfits, people didn't care like they did today. It's all about sales for most stans. If ARTPOP was selling like crazy, they wouldn't be complaining it's kind of sad. I'm glad I stopped caring about sales 'cause it's allowing me to enjoy her more.

Not me. I looooooove the song and the video slays. Sure she could have shot a beautiful video in a latin speaking country on the beach but that's not what Gaga is about. It's about the unexpected. If you want just good looking and easy stuff, stan for someone else. I do think she has been pushing the weird look too much since BTW though.
I think lots hate Alejandro here cause it wasn't a big US hit for some. But wasn't it Top5 or something? When did this stop being a big hit?! And therefore they blame the video for it.
Fact is, it was a super big hit in Europe cause the song itself was fantastic. And the video was different which was helpful too.
Eventhough I've said a few times I want Gaga to be more GP-friendly I also don't want her to play safe all the time. After all she is called Lady Gaga. Just keep it in doses though.

For me Venus, Gypsy, Sexxx Dreams, G.U.Y. just as examples are really true Gaga songs that slay.
My problem is that this era seems not to be planned well: the booklet could have been much better, the single change, no video, no discounts during christmas, no performances on night time talk shows, etc etc.
I will try to blame it all on the management change and I really hope she had time over the past weeks to gather herself and her team and plan out ARTPOP RELOADED.

|
Hmmm. I don't have any problem with the booklet really. I mean overall would I have wanted an album cover and booklet like the initial promo photos? Yes. But I like what we got.
The single change doesn't bother me at all either and imo is something nobody should've even tripped about. Do What U Want is a better song than Venus and a better single (even though the Venus chorus is one of Gagas best imo). The only reason people tripped about it is because with Gaga people are always looking for some excuse to label her desperate or declining. So of course when they changed the single people immediately had to whip their knives out.
BUT other than disagreeing with those specific two things. I agree that the rest of this era is kind of like lacking something. And imo its what I said before, conviction. We get great things here and there, Applause was a great music video and shes had a couple of nice looks. But like theres no statement with this record. We've heard some drippy rantings about how affected she is by the fickle and perverse nature of pop stan culture and we see her fusing artwork with her image and music. But like...idk, I just don't feel like shes making any kind of statement. The music is solid pop music, but shes not being very interesting imo. As harsh as that sounds.
Like that Do What U Want performance at the AMA's was so whatever. She could've worn something totally amazing, sung her heart out, and had a memorable performance with R. Kelly. Yet instead she worse some dated looking ensemble, struggled to execute her choreography, and awkwardly mimed sex with him on stage on a White House set for attempted controversy. The only redeeming part of the performance was how she sung her heart out at the end.

Can't wait to see which of her past singles will make the ARTPOP Ball's setlist. Surely she won't be able to fit them all, right?
And agreed about Alejandro. Absolutely love it. Remember staying up all night to see the morning premiere of the video. I used to be absolutely obsessed with it.

She'll probably do shortened versions of them, and perform full versions of everything else and "the surprises"

I don't think "conviction" is the right word. Conviction is something Gaga always has when it comes to her music. I think it's that her state of mind and what she wants to be doesn't line up with what we want and so it comes off as unbalanced and as if she's not "doing things right". As of right now, she seems more concerned with what she wants than what we want and as pop stans that's really difficult to understand because a popstar is normally all about what everyone else wants. And I don't think this will change unless she decides she wants to start operating the way she used to.

I love Alejandro and have stanned for it since day one but I've seen so many people hate on it because it's dark and supposedly "doesn't make sense". I think it's amazing on every single level.

I hope whatever older songs she chooses to sing that she remixes them and comes up with new choreo. Not here for the same versions and same choreo as the last two tours.

Might be true, except I imagine her singing the full versions of her biggest hits. Born This Way especially since that song means so much to her and her career.

I use the word "conviction" because in comparison to past eras she hasn't displayed much confidence imo. Like with Born This Way for instance, she was basically at the center of a shitstorm in terms of how everyone was perceiving her but regardless of all of it she stuck to her guns, she had a point of view, and chugged through the era with confidence, conviction. I feel, as someone else said pages ago, whatever point of view this album was supposed to have was totally lost in translation. And to top it off shes so vocal about how upset she is with peoples perceptions of her and its totally steering the mood of this era instead of her just chugging along like she did last era. And I know theres factors as to why that is, im just saying thats what I mean when I use the word conviction.

But the booklet looked lifeless. I love the cover, but the booklet looked like it was together in 5 minutes to me. It's ok, it just could have been better.
I know that DWUW would be a bigger hit than Venus. I am only complaining about why change it at that point, why wasn't it the second single anyway? It's like they jump from a to b.
I agree about the rest. I guess she was trying to bring ART and POP together but when, how? Just by putting on some weird clothes, some weird looks? But also fantastic looks. Like you say, it doesn't seem like they know where they are heading to with this record.
I really liked the AMA performance. I just think DWUW isn't a very interesting song to perform imo.
But good points
