Well, yeah, she's alienated the public. Although I personally don't have a problem with the material - I love BTW and think a lot of tracks on ARTPOP are really good - none of her competitors would be a greater contributing factor to the commercial decline in her career than herself. Which is fine, unless her primary goal was to stay on top.
