I feel like maybe ARTPOP would’ve been better (or at least would’ve been received better) if it was released in the original 2-disc/2-volume ART/POP idea. That, or she should’ve fit more to the descriptions of “EDM” and “Art” that she gave for the album. Along with releasing more “”“mature”“” music that fit the technology theme she gave with the Inez & Vinoodh photoshoot. Like, if you break it down into 3 criteria:
EDM:
Aura
Venus
G.U.Y.
Swine
Donatella
Mary Jane Holland
Applause
Artsy:
Aura
ARTPOP
Applause
Mature:
Aura
Do What U Want
ARTPOP
Dope
Gypsy
Applause
Than the only songs that fit the original ARTPOP theme/imagery are "Aura", "ARTPOP", and "Applause". It’s like she was going with that theme until she suddenly said “F*CK IT” and went for the colorful explosion theme of the album cover. I feel like it then became a mish-mash of the “ART” material (more mature stuff written from June 2012 to January 2013, like “Aura”, “Gypsy”, “Applause”, “G.U.Y.”, “ARTPOP”, etc.) and “POP” material (mostly stuff written from June 2013 to October 2013, like “Sexxx Dreams”, “MANiCURE”, “Venus”, “Swine”, “Do What U Want”, etc.) and it just didn’t mesh as well as she hoped.
She should've either served the mature 'ART' side now, with the immature 'POP' side in November 2014. Or she should've released a 17-track album, with the first 8 tracks being "ART", "ARTPOP" being track #9, and the last 8 tracks being POP. "Aura", "Applause" on the ART side, "ARTPOP" track #9, and "Sexxx Dreams", "Ratchet" (NOT "JEWELS N' DRUGS"), "Do What U Want", "MANiCURE", and maybe "Donatella". "G.U.Y." could end up on either side. idk.
