His last four albums combined produced only one (Max Martin-produced) top 10 that struggled going platinum.

A sellout and a trend hopper.
@ you thinking he needed Young Jeezy, Will.i.am, and Pitbull for those songs to become hits and couldn't do it solo when they can't even have solo singles chart.
Britney flopping has been quite uneventful. Kinda funny because it's always the Britbots leading the pack when others flop (they had more fun with Katy outdoing Gaga than the Kats themselves, they dragged Bey during the "4" era even harder than the Navy, they dragged Xtina and called P!nk a man more often than any other base etc.) and now the Britbots are being all quiet and peaceful, acting like her flopping hard was a part of the plan.
Usher did sell out tho for a quick hit. Say what you want about JT but he was very smart to sit out the dance trend.
When R&B/pop stars go electro- it hardly ever works. Usher and Xtina are prime examples. Bey and JT were smart in how they handled the trend change.

How did it not work?
OMG brought back his career, and Scream outperformed his Lead Single. Anyone with a mind would've been sold out seeing how much his career does better.
Yeah! was also a generic mess, it's one of the more forgotten smashes of the 00s.
It's 4x Platinum in U.S. and ain't even come out Digital era. We Belong Together is Platinum in U.S. and came out during Digital Boom and was the only song bigger than Yeah! in 00's.
