Where do you think the stans got it from? Most of the terminology originates from 80s ball culture* and has been part of the LGBT world since.
*"Houses" would have "house mothers" and they'd host "Balls". Now, I'm going to hazard a guess and say Gaga is probably familiar with all of this.
